WUDOO

Every one knows how to perform Wudoo (Washing Hands, Rinsing mouth & Nose, wash the Face, wash the arms till the elbows, wiping the head and than washing the feet. The sunnahs of Wudoo are: -

  1. Begin with Bismillah. The Prophet ﷺ said, “There is no ablution for him who does not mention Allāh’s name upon it.” (Ahmad, Abū Dāwood & Ibn Mājah)

  2. Use the Siwāk (Tooth-stick). It should be done before starting ablution or before rinsing the mouth.

  3. Using a single handful of water to rinse the mouth and sniff water into the nostrils, performing this three times, “He put his hand into the vessel, rinsed his mouth, washed his nose with water and blew it out three times, with only one handful of water.” (Al-Bukhāri & Muslim)

  4. Use the Left hand to rinse the Nose.

  5. Run the fingers through the Beard once after washing the face.

  6. Wash the parts three time most to the time (Bukhari). But sometimes washing the face, arms and feet once or twice is also Sunnah, so keep changing the number of times you wash them occasionaly so that you are doing all the different Sunnahs .

  7. Exaggeration in sniffing water into the nose, unless one is fasting. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Make Wudū’ thoroughly, wash in between your fingers, and exaggerate in sniffing water into your nose, unless you are fasting.” (Ahmad & Abū Dāwood)

  8. Be economic in using water.

  9. Upon completing Wudoo recite the following supplication: -

ASH-HADU AN LAA ILAAHA ILLAL-LAAHU WAHDAHU LAA SHAREEKA LAH, WA-ASH-HADU ANNA MUHAMMADAN ‘ABDUHU WARASOOLUH.

ALLAHUMMAJ-‘ALNEE MINAT TAWWAABEENA WAJ ‘ALNEE MINAL-MUTAHTAH-HIREEN.

‘I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah, alone without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.’

‘O Allah, make me of those who return to You often in repentance and make me of those who remain clean and pure.’

10. Perform Wudoo at home.

11. Perform 2 Rakats after Wudoo.

The Prophet ﷺ said to Bilal:- "Tell me~ Bilal! of your most hopeful action since your acceptance of Islam because I have heard the echo of your footsteps in Paradise in front of me?"

Bilal replied:-  "I do not consider any of my actions more hopeful (of acceptance from Allah) than that whenever I have made my ablutions (Wudu) during the day or night I have each time offered by way of prayer that which Allah has made easy for me."  { Bukhari Book #21, Hadith #250) & Muslim}

GOING TO THE MASJID

1. Go early to catch the first row as there is a Reward which is incomparable. The Prophet ﷺ said,

  • If people were to know the virtues of going early to prayer, they would race one another for it” (Bukhari & Muslim)

  • If the people knew the reward of answering the Adthān and praying in the first row in congregational prayer, and found no other way to obtain this reward except by drawing lots, they would do so…” (Bukhari & Muslim)

2. Recite the Du'a for going to the Masjid..The Prophet ﷺ said, “…he who performs ablution and perfects it, and goes to the mosque with the sole purpose of performing the prayer, he does not take a step without being raised a degree and having one of his sins erased. When he prays, as long as he is in the state of purity, the angels keep on praying for him ‘O Allāh, forgive him. O Allāh, accept his repentance,’ and the angles continue this supplication for him as long as he does not do any harm and his ablution is not broken.” (Sahih Muslim)

ALLAHUMMA RABBA HATHIHID-DA'WATIT-TAMMAH, WASSALATIL-QA-IMAH AATI MUHAMMADAN ALWASEELATA WAL-FADEELAH, WAB'ATH-HU MAQAMAN MAHMOODAN ALLATHEE WA'ADTAH INNAKA LA TUKHLIFUL MEE'AAD.

Some other Sunnan: -

The stronger opinion is to go in Sujood with Hands first and then the knees but going with knees first is also acceptable according to scholars. After the Sujood of first and third Rak’ah the Prophet ﷺ used to briefly sit before getting up to standing position. But getting directly up is also supported by some scholars.

TASLEEM

Commonly practiced Tasleem is “As Salam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaah” on both sides (right & left), but there are other variations mentioned in authentic narrations that we can alternate in our prayers, to implement more Sunnahs and also to keep the heart alive InShaAllah.

The other variations mentioned are…

  • i) Saying “As Salam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh” on both sides (right & left). (Abu Dawood, Ibn Majah & Others)

  • ii) Saying “As Salam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh” to the right and “As Salam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullaah” to the left. (Abu Dawood & Ibn Khuzaimah with a sahih isnad).
